The sophomore point guard sparked the late run that secured a second straight Class 3A state championship for the No. 2 Eagles on Saturday. With senior leader Jimmia McCluskey in foul trouble and the Eagles trailing by 10 points, Palmer scored 14 points and had two steals in a 20-3 stretch to give Aberdeen a 48-41 lead with about three minutes to go. She finished with 22 points, nine steals and two assists as the Eagles defeated No. 10 River Hill, 51-47, in the second consecutive matchup between the teams in the state final. Palmer, who averages 9.22 points, 4.4 assists and 2.1 steals, also contributed nine points and six assists in the 71-50 state semifinal win over Damascus. A veteran of the Fairfax Stars Amateur Athletic Union program, she has a 3.07 GPA and is starting to draw attention from college coaches.
