Harford Community College's new APGFCU Arena is quickly becoming the venue of choice for many longtime community events, including high school graduations.

This June, five of the county's 10 public high schools plan to hold their commencement exercises at the new arena that opened last fall, according to the graduation schedule released Monday by Harford County Public Schools.

The arena seats 2,500 for sporting events and up to 3,200 for other activities, according to the HCC website.

The high schools that have scheduled their graduation ceremonies at the area are C. Milton Wright, Joppatowne, North Harford, Fallston and Patterson Mill.

A couple years ago, after larger auditoriums were built at Aberdeen, Edgewood and Bel Air high schools, school officials began a push to hold all graduations in Harford County. Prior to that, many schools held ceremonies at Towson Center because their auditoriums were not large enough to accommodate the graduating seniors and their families.
