Baltimore-area restaurants took to social media on Wednesday to announce weather-related specials, closings and promotions:

Food trucks mostly kept off the road. They Gypsy Queen, Miss Shirley's, South Carolina BBQ, Iced Gems, Kommie Pigs and Wheyrich all Tweeted out notices that they would not be operating on Wednesday.

The Manor Tavern in Monkton was closing for lunch on Wednesday. In Ellicott City, Tersiguel's was closing for lunch and dinner on Wednesday. Establishments in Federal Hill and Fells Point Tweeted out messages on Wednesday afternoon assuring patrons that they were remaining open.

Elsewhere, Gino's Burgers & Chicken on La Salle Road in Towson is offering 50 percent off on Wednesday to to fire, police, state employees, news media and all emergency workers for having to be out on the road today.

J. Paul's at Harborplace was offering half-price bowls of chili on Wednesday.

If you subscribe to email updates from Petit Louis, you may have received this tempting message from the restaurant's maitre d'hotel Patrick Del Valle:

"What better way to spend a snowy day than at Petit Louis Bistro, where the fireplace will be glowing and the comforting menu will warm you with classics such as our Soupe a L'Oignon Gratinee."

It's not snowing yet, just before noon downtown, but Soupe a L'Oignon Gratinee sounds pretty magnifique right now, and I'm pretty sure it's onion soup.

Even if it never does snow today, there's this: For dinner, the chef at Petit Louis will be offering comfort classics like cassoulet. Petit Louis is open for lunch until 2 p.m. and for dinner starting at 5 p.m.
