The first Baltimore location of Nando's Peri-Peri, an informal Afro-Portuguese restaurant specializing in flame-grilled chicken, will open on Baltimore and Paca streets on March 20. The location is close by the University of Maryland and around the corner from the Hippodrome.

Founded in Johannesburg in 1987, the worldwide chicken chain made its U.S. debut in 2008 in Washington and has added nine stores in the D.C. metropolitan area since. A Nando's opened at the Waugh Chapel Towne Centre Gambrills last December, and another has been announced for the Cordish Cos.' Towson Square project.

Nando’s is known for its marinated and flame-grilled Peri-Peri chicken, which is basted to order with a customer’s preferred flavor and spice.
