Girls Athlete of the Week: Julia Collins, River Hill, basketball

The junior guard played a pivotal role as the No. 10 Hawks won their second straight Class 3A East regional championship last week, especially in wins over their top two Howard County rivals. She had 16 points, 14 rebounds and two steals in the 50-27 victory in the regional final over No. 12 Howard and eight points, 11 rebounds and five steals in the 39-31 regional semifinal victory over No. 13 Reservoir. She also had seven points, three rebounds and three assists in a 64-14 quarterfinal rout of Annapolis. For the season, Collins, 5 feet 8, averages 9.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.1 steals. Primarily a lacrosse player, she has a 3.56 grade-point average. She and her twin sister, Jenna, also a starter on the Hawks basketball team, have committed to play lacrosse at Navy.
