A 23-year-old man was shot in Glen Burnie on Monday night after he tried to flee an armed man who approached his vehicle and announced a robbery, Anne Arundel County Police said Tuesday.

The victim may have been targeted and the shooting was "not a random act of violence," police said.

Police responded to Baltimore Washington Medical Center about 9:40 p.m. and found the victim, who had driven himself to the hospital, with a gunshot wound, police said.

The victim told police he was sitting in his parked vehicle in the 7800 block of Southhampton Drive when the armed man approached the car. The victim said he tried to drive away, and the man fired into his vehicle before fleeing into a wooded area, police said.

The victim continued driving until he reached the hospital. He has since been transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where his condition has stabilized, police said.

Police did not identify the man or provide more specific information as to his condition. They have not made an arrest.

The shooting occurred less than four miles from where a Baltimore man was found dead in a wooded area on Sunday. In that case, one man was arrested for first-degree murder after being seen exiting the woods and two others near the scene were arrested on handgun possession, police said.

Also on Monday, a 23-year-old woman unloading her car in the 100 block of W. Meadow Road in Brooklyn park was robbed at gunpoint by a teenaged boy or young man wearing a black face mask, county police said. The victim was not injured, and no arrest has been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call northern district detectives at 410-222-6135.
