Iggies unscathed in Mount Vernon fire

Iggies, the popular Mount Vernon pizza cafe, was unscathed by the three-alarm fire that gutted a neighboring building on Thursday morning.

Peter Wood, who co-owns the restaurant with his wife Lisa Heckman, said that Iggies would definitely be open for dinner on Thursday but that lunch service was unlikely.

Firefighters gained access to the neighboring building through Iggies, Wood said. On Thursday morning, the restaurant's floor was coated, but not flooded, with water. There was a pervasive odor in the restaurant that reminded a visitor of burned pizza.

The owners' announcement last June that Iggies was contemplating a move to Towson was greeted with panic by fans of the BYOB restaurant. The owners eventually decided to stay put.
