Polar Bear Plunge

Volunteers are needed between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. for the 17th annual Polar Bear Plunge on Saturday, Jan. 26, at Sandy Point State Park. Duties include setup and breakdown, registration/customer service, food and beverage distribution, and crowd control. Volunteers are also needed from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 27 for the "Super Sunday Sweep" to clean up and remove items left behind by plungers. To register and more information, go to

Blood drives

The American Red Cross needs volunteers 14 and older (some positions 18 and older) to greet donors, provide customer service and serve refreshments. Interested persons must complete an application and attend an orientation/training session. Those older than 18 require a background check. Eastport Girls Club

The club is seeking high school seniors or adult volunteers to serve as tutors to club participants in grades five to nine from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Training will be provided, and a background check is required. Information or to schedule an interview: 410-919-3347.

Fire marshal

Anne Arundel police

Volunteers are needed for the reserve officer program. This is a uniformed position to assist sworn officers in traffic control, administrative duties, community relations, etc. Prospective volunteers must be older than 21 and undergo a criminal background check. Hours are flexible. Reserve officers work all hours of the day and on weekends. A minimum of 16 service hours per month is required, and volunteers can be placed at any of the four district stations.
