Winter habitat hike

Jan. 12, 2 p.m.-3 p.m., Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary and Visitor's Center, 11704 Fenno Road, Upper Marlboro, Prince George's County. Casual family biking

Jan. 12, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Patapsco Valley State Park, Avalon area, 5120 South St., Halethorpe, Baltimore County. Meet at the Lost Lake parking lot to begin your trip and make your own pace along the Grist Mill Trail. A ranger will be at the trail entrance. For all ages. Water will be available. Scuba diving

Jan. 21. Scuba instructor John Kiser will explain how to become a certified diver and will discuss local dive sites. The 7:30p.m. meeting is presented by the Broadneck/Magothy River MSSA Chapter 10. Md. Half Marathon

Registration is open for the fifth annual Maryland Half Marathon to benefit the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center. The race will be May 11 in the Maple Lawn community of Howard County. The cost of registration will be $75 until Jan. 31, $85 in February and $90 from March 1 to May 11.
