A 32-year-old man was shot in the arm and torso in West Baltimore on Wednesday, just west and across Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from the University of Maryland Medical Center, according to city police.

Officers responded about 7:04 p.m. to the 700 and 800 blocks of W. Fayette Street in the city's Poppleton neighborhood and found the injured man, said Detective Vernon Davis, a police spokesman. He was unable to provide police with any suspect information and was taken to an area hospital, police Sgt. Anthony Smith said.

Detectives from the Western District were investigating, Davis said.
