New year begins at Aberdeen Senior Center

The new year of 2013 has begun!

The festive holidays are a memory and new events are planned for January and the Senior Center in Aberdeen began its winter session on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Jan. 3, there was blood pressure screening from 10 a.m. until noon. This screening is sponsored by Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

Today (Friday, Jan. 4) the men will have a discussion group from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m., when current events and various topics will be discussed in a friendly and informative setting. The men enjoy this every first Friday of the month.

On Thursday, Jan. 10, there will be the AARP Driving Class from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. You must be a registered member at the Senior Center to take advantage of this opportunity. Signing up is required, and it is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-AARP members.

On Tuesday, Jan. 15, the Diabetes Support Group will meet from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m., facilitated by retired nurses. They will give diet tips and other helpful hints.

Big Bingo with a Healthy Twist will be held at the Senior Center on Thursday, Jan. 17. This is a chance to enjoy bingo and have good nutrition at the same time. Please call the Senior Center, 410-273-5666m for all the details.

On Monday, Jan. 21, the Aberdeen Senior Center will be closed for the holiday.

Don't miss Thursday, Jan. 24, when there will be "No Cook, Cooking With Andrea." Andrea is the Health and Nutrition Manager at the Aberdeen Center, and she will prepare a tasty, non-cooked dish. A panel of judges will be selected to rate the dish. What fun! You must sign up for this event.

Something new to Aberdeen is coming on Friday, Jan. 25. Bob Hoff will be leading a Book Discussion from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Bob is from the Bel Air library, and will facilitate the discussion of "The Art of Racing in the Rain," by Garth Stein. See the front desk to get a copy of the book.
