Major League Soccer

D.C. United to open season with rematch at Dynamo

D.C. United will begin the 2013 Major League Soccer regular season March 2 at Houston, a rematch of the Eastern Conference finals against the Dynamo, and play its home opener a week later against Real Salt Lake. With the league announcing the first home games for all 19 clubs Tuesday, United also learned it will serve as the first opponent for New York's season debut at Red Bull Arena on March 16. The remainder of United's 34-game schedule will be finalized in a few weeks. March 2 is the earliest start for MLS in its 18-season history. United, which had the third-most points in the league last season, will encounter a difficult first three games: Houston lost to Los Angeles in the MLS Cup final and has never lost at home to D.C. since settling in Texas from Northern California in 2006; Real Salt Lake was the sixth-best side in MLS' regular season this year; and the Red Bulls were fifth before falling to United in the Eastern semifinals.
