Nairn a finalist for MAC Hermann Trophy

Penn State senior midfielder Christine Nairn (Archbishop Spalding) was named one of three finalists Thursday for the MAC Hermann Trophy, which is awarded by the Missouri Athletic Club to the nation's best women's soccer player. The other finalists are Virginia's Caroline Miller and North Carolina's Crystal Dunn.

Men's lacrosse: Severna Park junior attackman Jonah Kozireski has committed orally to UMBC. He started in the spring as a sophomore for the Falcons and played for the Predator LC and SoCo LC in the summer. Kozireski attended the Maryland Freestate, Brine Shootout, UPlax, Gait Cup and Lake Placid tournaments. He also considered Furman and Towson. ... Junior midfielder Ray Wardell of Babylon (N.Y.) High has committed orally to play at Navy. The 6-foot-5 midfielder also considered Army, Dartmouth, Williams and Rutgers. ... Five Stevenson players were selected as preseason All-Americans in Inside Lacrosse's Face-Off Yearbook, led by senior defenseman Kyle Holecheck (Loyola), who was named to the first team. Sophomore attackman Stephen Banick and sophomore midfielder Tony Rossi (Calvert Hall) made the second team, and senior attackman Tyler Reid and junior long-stick midfielder Ryan Rubenstein (Boys' Latin) were picked to the third team. Also chosen to the first team were senior midfielder Ryan Clarke and senior faceoff specialist Tyler Granelli of two-time defending national champion Salisbury, as well as Washington College senior attackman Bennett Cord. Among players picked to the second team was Salisbury junior goalie Alex Taylor (Glenelg); Sea Gulls junior defenseman Zeke Smith was a third-team choice. Among the honorable-mention selections were Washington College junior midfielder Kodie Englehart, St.Mary's junior defenseman Tripp Trainor (Gilman) and Goucher senior goalie Connor Mishaw.

Women's lacrosse: Central Michigan will add the sport for the 2015-16 season. ... The Divison II Sunshine State Conference will begin sponsoring the sport effective with the spring 2014 season.
