Boehner's version of compromise: You give 100 percent, he gives nothing

December 04, 2012

It appears to me that Speaker John Boehner and the House Republicans are determined to drive us off the so-called fiscal cliff at the end of the year, and they are positioning the party to blame President Barack Obama for it.

The speaker keeps repeating his complaint that President Obama refuses to "compromise." But when he describes the deal the GOP wants, the compromise that emerges is one where Mr. Obama cedes 100 percent of his objectives and Mr. Boehner cedes nothing. That's what the White House did last year on this issue.

Let us hope he doesn't play an encore this month. But if the "worst" happens and Mr. Obama gets the blame, remember what he offered, versus what the House teapots demanded, and weigh them against what each would do to us, the taxpayers.

Good luck in 2013. It looks like we're going to need it.
