Baltimore County to offer free parking for holiday shopping

November 21, 2012|By Alison Knezevich, The Baltimore Sun

Baltimore County will offer more than 1,700 free parking spots over Thanksgiving weekend and again in December to encourage people to buy locally for their holiday shopping.

Between Thursday and Sunday, the spots will be marked with "free parking" bags over meters in Catonsville, Towson, Parkville, Essex, Pikesville, Arbutus, Stoneleigh and Dundalk. Visitors can get two hours of free parking a day. Free spots also will be available Dec. 20-25.

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz says officials hope the free parking spaces will encourage people to visit locally owned shops and restaurants.
