Lynly Safran McCoog, a homemaker who was a Lutherville school volunteer, died of breast cancer Nov. 13 at the Gilchrist Center for Hospice Care in Towson. She was 43 and lived in Lutherville.

Born Lynly Safran in Toms River, N.J., she was the daughter of Robert Safran Sr. and Kathryn Nicholl Safran. She was raised in York, Pa., and was a 1987 graduate of York Suburban High School. She earned a bachelor of arts in English at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

She met her future husband, Kevin J. McCoog, a graduate of Loyola University Maryland who works in software sales. They met though mutual friends and married in 2002.

She had managed a travel agency in Lancaster, Pa., and also taught travel and tourism at the Consolidated School of Business at its Lancaster and York campuses.

"Lynly fought every step of the way and continued to raise our beautiful children while training and running in marathons," her husband said. "She was a member of the local community board and contributed many volunteer hours to her children's classrooms at Lutherville Laboratory School."

"She wound up creating a full-time job out of her volunteer work," said her brother, Robert L. Safran Jr. of Rehoboth Beach, Del. "She did not let her diagnosis stop her. She was strong willed and just kept on going. She was a highly organized person."

A Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Ware Avenue, where she was a member.

In addition to her husband, parents and brother, survivors include a son, Max McCoog, and a daughter, Mia McCoog, both at home; and another brother, Joshua T. Safran of Burlington, Vt.
