A Pasadena man missing since he left home last Monday night has been found dead near Fairview Beach Park, Anne Arundel County police said Sunday.

The body of Thomas Herron, 46, was discovered in a wooded area at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, the apparent victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Lt. J.D. Batten said the body had been sent to the medical examiner's office, but that family members said Herron had been despondent and had left the house carrying a firearm.

Known for walking his dogs in the neighborhood, he had left his animals behind Monday night.
