Towson High sophomore Hicklen orally commits to Florida

Towson High sophomore goalie Haley Hicklen has orally committed to Florida, which is coming off its first appearance in the NCAA tournament semifinals in only its third year of existence. As a freshman, Hicklen was a member of the Under Armour All-America Underclass Team, the Women's Division National Tournament team and the National Schoolgirls Baltimore Metro Team. She won a national championship with the US Lacrosse under-15 team and received two varsity letters as a freshman (volleyball and lacrosse). A member of the Skywalkers 2015 Blue Team, Hicklen also has participated in the Elite 120, Maryland Youth Lacrosse Association (All-Star) and Northwestern Black (MVP Goalie Award) camps. She also considered Maryland and Northwestern.

Fundraisers: Boston Cannons midfielder Paul Rabil (Johns Hopkins) will serve as guest DJ Thursday night from 10:30 till close at lacrosse staple Portside Tavern in Canton, with proceeds benefiting Delaware Coast Aid, which helps victims of Superstorm Sandy. Also, Warrior will be donating $1 to the American Red Cross Relief Fund for every autograph Rabil signs during the soon-to-launch Paul Rabil Road Tour (up to a max of $5K). "We thought this was very important to do since the majority of the stops on the Rabil Tour are in areas affected by Sandy," Warrior said.

Navy's Reynolds, Bertrand earn ECAC honors

A pair of Navy players from the same hometown — Antioch, Tenn. — were honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference on Wednesday after the Midshipmen's 24-17 win over Florida Atlantic on Saturday, which sealed a berth in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. Freshman quarterback Keenan Reynolds was chosen as the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision Offensive Player of the Week after accounting for 306 yards of total offense and three touchdowns while improving to 4-0 as a starter. Freshman cornerback Kwazel Bertrand was named Defensive Player of the Week after recording six tackles and recovering a key third-quarter fumble.

Maryland: Chick-fil-A Bowl representative Chad Richardson will visit Clemson's Memorial Stadium on Saturday for the Terps' game against the Tigers. The teams are being scouted as potential Atlantic Coast Conference representatives in the Chick-fil-A Bowl on Dec. 31.

Division III: Salisbury senior quarterback Dan Griffin (North Harford) and sophomore linebacker Steven Gamble were selected as the ECAC Division III Northwest Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively.

UMBC men advance to America East soccer final

Junior forward Kadeem Dacres scored in the 23rd minute as second-seeded UMBC edged visiting No.3 Stony Brook (11-6-1), 1-0, in an America East Conference men's soccer semifinal Wednesday. The Retrievers (11-4-4) advance to the championship game, where they will host No. 5 New Hampshire (7-7-5) on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Wildcats have upset No. 4 Albany and No. 1 Vermont to reach the title game. The contest will be a rematch of the 2010 title game, in which the seeds were exactly as they are this year. UMBC and UNH played to a scoreless draw, but UMBC advanced to the NCAA College Cup by prevailing in penalty kicks, 5-4.

More men's college soccer: Loyola freshman Larry Ndjock was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and was also tabbed first-team all-conference. Senior Gerwyn Jones and sophomore Connor Thompson joined Ndjock on the first team. Junior Stephen Dooley was named to the second team, and freshman Dominic Marshall was included on the All-Rookie team. In addition, seniors Hector Arellano and Zach Tweddell, juniors Dooley, Jamie Libby and Thurman Van Riper, and sophomores Joseph Cahalan, Carson Pryor, Connor Thompson and Andrew Waddington were chosen to the All-Academic team.

United Soccer Leagues: The Baltimore Bohemians of the Premier Development League will hold their first round of tryouts for the 2013 season on Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. to noon at Goucher's Beldon Field in Towson. All attendees will receive a Bohs T-shirt and a ticket to the first Bohs home game in May. There is a registration fee of $35 per player.
