Winifred W. "Winnie" Morris, a homemaker, gardener and golfer, died Oct. 28 of renal failure at Gilchrist Hospice Care in Towson. The longtime Ruxton resident was 98.

The daughter of a lawyer and a homemaker, Winifred Walsh was born in New York City and raised in New Rochelle, N.Y. Her maternal grandparents owned Desnoes & Geddes Ltd., makers of Jamaica's Red Stripe Beer.

After graduating in 1932 from the Ursuline School in New Rochelle, she earned a bachelor's degree in 1936 from the College of New Rochelle.

She was married in 1938 to Edwin T. Morris, a construction engineer whose work took the couple and their family to Puerto Rico and Liberia, where they lived for a number of years.

In 1966, they moved to Baltimore and settled in Ruxton after Mr. Morris was named president of Baltimore Contractors. He died in 1998.

Mrs. Morris enjoyed entertaining family and friends at Sunday afternoon cookouts. She was also an accomplished gardener and flower arranger and a member of the Little Garden Club.

An avid golfer, Mrs. Morris liked playing with friends at Longview Golf Club in Timonium, where she had been 18-hole ladies champion.

For the past five years, she had been a resident of Blakehurst Retirement Community in Towson.

She was a longtime communicant of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Baltimore and Ware avenues, Towson, where a Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Surviving are three sons, Edwin T. Morris Jr. of New York City, David M. Morris of Baltimore and Patrick J. Morris of Weston, Fla.; a daughter, Joan Muriel Morris Strzelecki of Williamsburg, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
