Orioles right fielder Nick Markakis and his family showed up at the KidsPeace Trick 'n Trot 5K run in Canton on Saturday morning to support the charity event hosted by Buck and Angela Showalter.
He said he gets full clearance for all activities on Tuesday and is looking forward to a healthy offseason and normal spring training after suffering a broken left thumb after being hit by a pitch from CC Sabathia on Sept. 8.
But he would rather have been looking forward to a World Series game Saturday night at Camden Yards.
“I’d be playing,’’ he said.
The thumb injury that cost him the stretch drive and the a chance to appear in the playoffs has healed and there’s little question that Markakis would have pushed the envelope to help the Orioles if they had reached the Fall Classic, but now it’s all about next season.
