Book sale The American Association of University Women will hold its annual book sale Nov. 1-4 at 8151-D Ritchie Highway in the festival at Pasadena Shopping Center. Hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 1; 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Nov. 2; 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Nov. 3 and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 4. A public pre-sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Nov. 1, and there is a $10 entry fee. 'Mindfulness Practice Group of Annapolis' Jane and Garrett Phelan, ordained in Thich Nhat Hanh's Order of Interbeing, will offer a Day of Study of the Five Mindfulness Trainings, Thich Nhat Hanh's version of the Buddhist Lay Precepts, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 333 Dubois Road in Annapolis. Event includes a dharma talk, dharma discussion, private journaling, and sitting and walking meditation. This day replaces six-week night classes at the Mindfulness Practice Center of Fairfax, permitting the student to Receive the Precepts at the Mindfulness Practice Center of Fairfax in a regional ceremony on Jan. 5. Fall Historical Seminar The Ann Arrundell County Historical Society presents "Peace Within Thy Borders; Nursing the wounded and nurturing the lost" at the Glen Burnie Improvement Association Building, 19 Crain Highway, S.E., Glen Burnie. Mike Fitzpatrick will make a presentation on Helen Noye Hoyt, a nurse in Annapolis during the Civil War.
