Obama came out swinging

October 23, 2012

Just as Sidney Poitier's Mr. Tibbs returned the slap of a bigoted white orchid owner in "In the Heat of the Night," so President Obama's rhetorical slap-down of Mitt Romney's rude and condescending behavior during the second presidential debate resounded around the world ("Obama, Romney take sharp tone," Oct. 17).

By forcefully pointing out his Republican opponent's weaknesses, the president not only won the debate but changed the world for millions of people watching the event on TV.
