Men's college soccer: Loyola junior goalkeeper Thurman Van Riper was honored as the Eastern College Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Men's college swimming: UMBC seniors Pierre De Waal and Andrew Eckhoff were chosen as the America East Male Swimmer of the Week and Male Diver of the Week, respectively.

Women's college cross country: Salisbury sophomore Hailey Spinapont was named a Capital Athletic Conference co-Athlete of the Week.

Table tennis: The Maryland Table Tennis Center in Gaithersburg will hold its October Open this weekend, its final tournament of the year. A total of $2,600 in prize money will be given out. Players competing for the first-place prize of $1,000 include Wang Qing Liang, 16, who won the previous MDTTC tournament and who in July made the semifinals of the U.S. Open Table Tennis Championships in Grand Rapids, Mich.; and Raghu Nadmichettu, 24, of Germantown, a USA national men's singles quarterfinalist.
