Marylanders have a new food challenge. There's the Fat Boy burger at Chewy's, the colossal burrito at El Hidalgo in Elkridge and a giant milkshake at Chick and Ruth's in Annapolis.

On Oct. 22, the Breakfast Shoppe in Severna Park will introduce the Category 3 Tony Chicken and Waffle 'Pann'wich - six pieces of hand-battered chicken breast, eight pieces of smoked bacon and six pieces of pepper jack cheese, all layered between two bacon-Belgian waffles and topped with scratch made gravy.

Named for WBAL-TV meteorologist Tony Pann, the 'Pann'wich is the centerpiece of the Severna Park restaurant's annual fundraising drive, which this year will benefit the family of Elkridge resident Ava Claire Conklin, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor last year. Read Ava's story here.

Polish off the 'Pann'wich in 40 minutes or less, and the Breakfast Shoppe will match your donation ($35 minimum). Each participant receives a Category 3 Tony Chicken and Waffle 'Pann'wich and gets his or her name on Ava's Wall at the Breakfast Shoppe. There's more information about the 'Pann'wich challenge on this Facebook page

You can order the 'Pann'wich, without taking the challenge, for $20 (minimum two people). And you can forgo the sandwich altogether and make a donation for Ava Claire Conklin here.

The challenge launches on Oct. 22 with a visit from Tony Pann himself and runs through Dec. 31. Spaces and seating are limited for the opening day of the challenge.
