Fall sports: Gaels upset Cardinals in soccer, 3-2

Three players scored as host Mount St. Joseph earned a 3-2 upset in boys soccer against No. 7 Calvert Hall on Thursday.

Brian Wilkinson, Clay Kirby and Danny Kaiser had goals for the Gaels, who led 1-0 after the first half.

The Cardinals fell to 5-3.

Mount St. Joseph's Brett DeBoy made four saves.

No. 1 McDonogh 0, No. 4 Gilman 0: A diving save by senior Eagles goalkeeper Matt Sanchez on a header by Greyhounds junior midfielder Sam Wancowicz with 10 seconds remaining in regulation sent the game into overtime in Owings Mills.

No. 1 McDonogh (8-0-2, 5-0-2 MIAA A Conference) and No. 2 Gilman (9-1-3, 4-1-3) also played a scoreless double-overtime match last Saturday.

Nelson Coffin

No. 6 Loyola 1, John Carroll 0: Jeremy DeGraffenreidt scored the game-winner to lift the visiting Dons (8-4) over the Patriots. Jake Brown made 11 saves for John Carroll, and Loyola's Chris Girken had one.

Field hockey

McDonogh 2, No. 2 Bryn Mawr 1: The visiting Eagles (10-3-1) were able to hold the Mawrtians (10-2) to one goal en route to their fifth straight win. McDonogh will host Bryn Mawr in four days, looking to increase its conference lead.

No. 7 Severna Park 7, Southern 0: Courtney Wells scored twice to lead the Falcons (7-2) past the visiting Bulldogs. Severna Park led 3-0 at the half.

Girls volleyball

No. 1 Arundel 3, Meade 0: The visiting Wildcats (9-0) defeated the Mustangs to keep their perfect record intact. Arundel won, 25-12, 25-5, 25-20.

Wednesday girls soccer

John Carroll 1, No. 4 Archbishop Spalding 0, OT: Jordan Clarke scored the game-winner inside the box as the host Patriots upset the Cavaliers (6-3-3-) in the Cancer Awareness match.
