Traffic: Accident on I-83 north near Timonium Road

Eastern Shore motorists urged to avoid traffic backups on U.S. 50 westbound on Sundays

As of 9:00 a.m. Friday, traffic was slow on I-83 northbound near Timonium Road, due to an accident.

Accidents were slowing traffic on Route 176 near Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard in Anne Arundel County, Gorsuch Road near Manchester Avenue in Carroll County and Route 140 near Market Street in Westminster.

The State Highway Administration is warning Eastern Shore motorists to allow extra travel time if they plan to drive on U.S. 50 westbound over U.S. 301 in Queenstown on the weekends, due to construction work and a lane closure there.

The state is replacing the bridge deck and has closed one of two westbound lanes to carry out the work. The closure has caused traffic backups along westbound U.S. 50 during the last two Sunday afternoons and evenings. Administrators suggest that motorists consider traveling off the peak hours of noon to 10 p.m. Sunday or taking U.S. 301 as an alternate route to avoid backups.

In addition to the lane closure on westbound U.S. 50 over U. S. 301, officials say crews periodically need to temporarily block northbound or southbound lanes on U.S. 301 below the bridge project.

Monument Street is closed between Wolfe Street and Patterson Park Avenue in East Baltimore, due to sinkhole repairs. Maryland Transit Administration bus 35 has been diverted.

There are no major delays reported on area transit systems.
