A man was shot in the head and torso from behind while entering a residence in North Baltimore on Thursday, according to city police.

Police responded to the 2300 block of North Charles Street about 5:25 p.m. for a report of gunfire and found the man wounded, said Sgt. Anthony Smith, a police spokesman.

He had been approached from behind by another man wearing a baseball hat and a green shirt, Smith said. No motive was known.

The man, who was not identified, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, Smith said.

Because of the severity of his injuries, homicide detectives responded to the scene to investigate, Smith said.

No further details were immediately available.

Anyone with information is asked to call 410-396-2100.
