Salisbury lineman Buckley honored by Empire 8

Salisbury defensive lineman Joey Buckley was named Empire 8 Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday. Buckley blocked a Buffalo State punt in the second quarter on the Bengals' 3-yard line and ran it in for a 13-0 lead in the Sea Gulls' 20-7 road win Saturday. Also, the Sea Gulls (3-1, 1-0 Empire 8) moved to No. 10 in the American Football Coaches Association Division III poll and remained No. 7 in the D3football.com poll.

Other honor: Johns Hopkins senior wide-out Scott Cremens earned Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors. The Blue Jays jumped to No. 13 in the AFCA poll and No. 18 in the D3football.com poll.

Salisbury's O'Branski joins Hoyas as men's lax assistant

Salisbury men's lacrosse assistant coach Tim O'Branski has joined the Georgetown coaching staff for the 2013 season. O'Branski, a Binghamton, N.Y. native, comes to the Hilltop as an assistant coach after three seasons on Salisbury's staff, helping the Sea Gulls to a 65-3 record, including three Division III national championship game appearances and consecutive national titles. At Georgetown, O'Branski will work with the faceoff unit and offensive personnel. His responsibilities also include the editing and analysis of game film. At Salisbury, O'Branski handled the defensive midfield positional group as well as coordinating the scout team and assisting with the offense. O'Branski was a three-year letter winner at Salisbury and a team captain during his senior season of 2009. He was a part of the Sea Gulls' undefeated 2007 and 2008 national champion squads.

Women's lacrosse: Salisbury coach Jim Nestor was honored as the Chesapeake Region Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association. This is the sixth time Nestor has been recognized by the IWLCA. He was named Chesapeake Region Coach of the Year from 2004 to 2008 and the South Atlantic Region Coach of the Year in 2009.

Women's soccer: Navy sophomore forward Morgan Dankanich earned a spot on the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week and was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week. She scored a goal in each of three Midshipmen wins to extend her season total to nine goals and 21 points. ... Frostburg State junior forward Adria Graham was chosen as the Capital Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while Salisbury sophomore goalie Michelle Conrad was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week.

Men's soccer: Frostburg State senior forward Ryan Russell was selected as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week, and teammate Abiye Jack (Loch Raven), a senior goalkeeper, was picked as the Defensive Player of the Week. ... Johns Hopkins sophomore goalkeeper Nick Cerrone was named Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Volleyball: Freshman outside hitter Sherelle Walker was named America East Rookie of the Week after leading a trio of UMBC players in double figures with a match-high 17 kills as the host Retrievers (8-12, 1-2 America East) rallied from down a set to defeat Providence, 3-1 (24-26, 25-23, 25-13, 25-10) on Sunday. Sophomore Hannah Schmidt (Mount de Sales) and redshirt freshman Krystal Mlemchukwu (Western Tech) finished with 11 kills each. The Friars fell to 1-19, 0-3. ... Salisbury senior Chelsea Glowacki was honored as the CAC Player of the Week.

Field hockey: Salisbury senior back Amber Holland was selected as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week.
