Weekend Wrap: Another big day for Terps WR recruit Deon Long

The record-breaking JUCO season for Maryland wide receiver commitment Deon Long continued Saturday with Iowa Western Community College's 55-35 win over Georgia Military.

[Long] took a screen pass from [Jake] Waters, got a block from Andrew Stone and raced 77 yards to score his second touchdown.

It was the final catch of the day for the nation’s leading receiver, who finished with 13 catches for 239 yards. He had 12 receptions for 162 yards in the first half while dealing with a leg cramp.

** Maryland-bound athlete Richy Anderson found the end zone twice in Thomas Johnson's 20-13 loss to Urbana.

After scoring two touchdowns in the first half, including a 19-yard run in the first quarter, Anderson was limited to only 22 yards on 10 carries after halftime.

** UM quarterback recruit Shane Cockerille had a big day in leading Gilman to a 37-7 win over Mount St. Joseph.

Another Division I player, Gilman quarterback and Maryland recruit Shane Cockerille, rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries and completed six of 10 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown.

** Terps running back pledge DeAndre' Lane had an early exit in Catonsville's 56-12 loss to Hereford.

Hereford outgained Catonsville, 161 yards to 59, in the first half when the Comets lost Maryland-bound running back DeAndre' Lane to a hamstring injury.
