Stony Brook's Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium was chosen Thursday as host for the 2013 and 2014 America East men’s lacrosse championships, marking the first time the conference has predetermined a site for the event.

The location was determined in a vote of the conference’s athletic directors at their fall meetings.

All three games of the 2013 America East championship will take place on Long Island for the first time, starting with the semifinals Thursday, May 2 and concluding with the title game  Saturday, May 4, which will be nationally televised on ESPNU at 10 a.m. Semifinal game times will be announced on a future date.

“Predetermining the site for our men’s lacrosse championship enhances our ability to put on a first-class tournament, and Stony Brook’s LaValle Stadium is the ideal place to hold it,” said America East commissioner Amy Huchthausen. “As the popularity of lacrosse continues to explode, the time is right to further expose our high level programs and grow America East’s lacrosse brand by creating a destination and atmosphere that will excite fans everywhere."

LaValle Stadium, Stony Brook’s 8,200-seat, state-of-the-art venue, has been the site of seven America East men’s lacrosse tournament games since 2009, including the past three championship games. LaValle Stadium has also hosted several NCAA events in recent years, serving as the site for the 2011 and 2012 NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse final four and hosting quarterfinals for the NCAA men’s Division I championship in 2006 and 2010.
