Orioles battle Pesky Pole at Fenway Park

September 23, 2012|By Eduardo A. Encina, The Baltimore Sun

Left-hander Wei-Yin Chen is slated to start the second game of the double header and left-hander Joe Saunders is slated to start Tuesday. Right-hander Miguel Gonzalez is tentatively scheduled to start the Orioles' series finale against the Blue Jays on regular four days rest.

Gonzalez, who has thrown more than 200 innings this season, including 70 innings in the Mexican winter league, pitched on eight days rest Friday in Boston, holding the Red Sox to two runs on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings. This would be the first time he'd work on regular rest since Aug. 15.

Around the horn: The Orioles were held to one run for the first time since Aug. 29, when they lost to the Chicago White Sox, 8-1. The one run was the fewest they've scored on the road since Aug. 20 in a 5-1 loss at Texas. ... The Orioles are now 27-9 in one-run games. It was their third one-run loss this month. … With his ninth-inning single, Reynolds is hitting .386 (17-for-44) with four doubles, six homers, nine runs and 16 RBIs against the Red Sox this season.
