Baltimore County police reported that they are investigating a fatal shooting by an officer Sunday morning in Dundalk.

Police responded to a report of a suspicious person around 2:15 a.m. near Seaside Road and Dunmanway, said Lt. Robert McCullough, a police spokesman. Officers located the man and tried to question him, but he became combative and tried to take a gun from one of the officers, the spokesman said.

Another officer, fearing for his colleague's safety, shot the man, McCullough said.

The man, whom police did not identify, was pronounced dead at the scene, McCullough said.

Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting. The officers have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, McCullough said.
