Speed played a role in accident, police say

September 22, 2012|By Scott Dance, The Baltimore Sun

An Eldersburg man died Saturday when he was ejected from his vehicle in a head-on collision, according to the Carroll County sheriff's office.

Leif Erik Foerter, 35, was killed as the result of a crash at Piney Ridge Parkway and Johnsville Road in Eldersburg about 1:15 p.m. A Honda Accord traveling west on Piney Ridge entered the intersection and struck a Jeep Wrangler that Foerter was driving north on Johnsville.

Foerter, who was thrown from the Jeep, was transported to Carroll Hospital Center, where he died.

The Honda's driver was also transported to that hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police consider speed to be a factor in the accident and are continuing to investigate.

Witnesses are asked to call Cpl. Jeff Miller at (410) 386-5900.
