Legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin comes to Baltimore

Jeffrey Toobin's new book examines the relationship between the Supreme Court and Obama White House

The cases before the court this term are huge. I expect they will reverse the Grutter v. Bollinger affirmative action decision from 2003 and rule that race cannot be considered as a factor in determining college admissions.

I think the court will also strike down Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. [The act was designed to protect minorities in several Southern states from state laws that can make it difficult to vote.]

But Anthony Kennedy often sides with the liberals on gay-rights issues. So when the court evaluates the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act, they may get his vote to strike it down.

But given my record on health care, let the reader beware.

"The Oath: The Obama White House and the Supreme Court, will be published Tuesday by the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group. 352 pages. $29.95.

Author Jeffrey Toobin will read from his book at 7 p.m. Friday at the central Enoch Pratt Library, 400 Cathedral St. Free. 410-396-5430 or prattlibrary.org.
