The Maryland men’s lacrosse team announced today that Ryan Moran has been promoted to associate head coach-offensive coordinator. A former Terrapins All-American, Moran is the program's first-ever associate head coach; he will begin his fifth season on the Maryland sideline this fall, having joined the staff as an assistant coach in the fall of 2008.

"Ryan has certainly earned this promotion," head coach John Tillman said. "He's continued to improve as a coach, expanded his responsibilities and has played a major role in Maryland's success over the four years. He's played a major role in our ever-improving recruiting, and has developed a greater understanding of all the different facets of being a head coach. He's helped us reach final fours and win an ACC championship. The list of players he has helped develop is impressive and goes back to his time as an assistant at Navy."

Added Moran: "I want to thank Coach Tillman for this great opportunity to take the next step in my coaching career.  I'm honored and humbled to be the first to have the title of associate head coach at the University of Maryland and am committed to continuing to work to make this the best men's lacrosse program in the country. We have experienced tremendous success here over the past four seasons, but I believe there are bigger and better things to come in the future for Maryland lacrosse."

Since returning to his alma mater as an assistant coach in September 2008, Moran has been responsible for coaching the Terps offense and faceoff men. One of the finest recruiters in the nation, Moran assisted with the recruiting efforts that have seen Maryland consistently rank among the top recruiting classes in the nation.

During his four seasons in College Park, Moran has helped lead the Terps to four NCAA tournament appearances, including back-to-back NCAA championship game appearances in 2011 and 2012, and the 2011 ACC championship.

Moran is one of the finest faceoff instructors in the country, and the Terps' faceoff winning percentage has increased in each of his first three seasons, culminating in 2011's percentage of .618, which is the highest for a Maryland team since 2002. Under Moran's tutelage, Curtis Holmes earned All-America honors in 2011 as a faceoff man.

Moran joined the Terps after working as an assistant coach at Navy from 2006 to 2008, including serving as the team's offensive coordinator in 2008. While at Navy, Moran helped guide the Midshipmen to a pair of Patriot League championships and three NCAA tournament appearances. In Major League Lacrosse, Moran played for the Baltimore Bayhawks, Philadelphia Barrage and the Long Island Lizards.
