Letter: Laurel Boys and Girls Club thankful for Laurel Art Center's fundraiser

The Laurel Boys and Girls Club's mission is to work in partnership with the greater Laurel area community in providing educational and recreational activities for youths and families. Our mission cannot be realized without the tremendous amount of support extended to us from dedicated volunteers, grantors, businesses and the community who believe in our programming, service to families and youths and realize the positive impact the club has on the greater Laurel area.

Just recently, such a supporter, Laurel Art Center, who recently closed its business on Main Street after over 40 years of providing a service to Laurel, contacted the club expressing a wish to give a last tribute to the club by conducting a fundraiser at the Laurel Art Center. Its long-time owner, Leo Emery, who many of you knew him in the 1960s, coached at the club, mowed fields, sold hot dogs and did anything to help the club grow.

His son Matt Emery stated "so many people have been supportive of us during this difficult period of closing the business, I know my dad Leo Emery, would want to give some support back to the community and the Boys and Girls Club was the obvious choice. My entire family has over forty years of club affiliation spanning three generations."

The club is extremely appreciative to the Emery family for not only its dedication to the Laurel Boys and Girls Club, but to the community as well. The club would also like to thank the club's football program, Commissioner Tom Johnson and Brenda Chase for partnering with the Emery family to make this fundraiser possible.
