It's looking like this Wednesday, Sept. 12, is the day that Apple will likely unveil its fifth iteration of its blockbuster iPhone mobile device.
I've been largely tuned out from all the buzz in recent weeks because, really, you don't really know what Apple is going to debut. But I dipped my toes in the rumor waters today, to get up to speed, and here's what I pulled up from the depths:
* The iPhone 5 will supposedly have a mini-dock connector -- not that wide port we're all used to, according to SlashGear. That could mean all of us will need to go and buy new speakers and other accessories that are compatible with our new iPhones.
* TIME's Techland blog has a roundup of the rumors that may be close to true, including a bigger screen-size than the current 3.5 inches.
* Widespread support for the LTE ("4G") cellular network standard that's supposedly the second coming of the Truest and Purest form of Internet Connectivity -- per Forbes.
* Fingerprint sensors on the iPhone 5? Really? Hmm. Guardian thinks so.
* Boy Genius Report's Zach Epstein has the rundown on the updates he expects, starting with a brand new design and bigger display.
A Wall Street analyst projects that Apple could sell 6 million to 10 million iPhones in the first week of sales in late September. That would be a doozy. Apple has to fend off Samsung's Galaxy S3, which recently took over the top-selling smartphone spot in the U.S.
