AACC gala Anne Arundel Community College will hold a gala Oct. 13 at the Westin Baltimore Washington Airport-BWI, 1110 Old Elkridge Landing Road in Linthicum. The "2012 Gala — Welcome to our Future" event will be an evening of dinner and dancing and will offer attendees a chance to meet AACC's sixth president, Dawn Lindsay. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served at 7:15 p.m. A program and dancing will follow. Tickets are $200, and proceeds support student scholarships and academic initiatives. Festival The annual West River Heritage Day Oyster Festival will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Captain Avery Museum, 1418 EW Shady Side Road. The event features children's activities, arts and crafts, food, and music by Tim and Savannah Finch, the Eastman String Band, Calico Jack, Sour Notes, the Coastal Flats, and Gary Harmon and Andy Garte. At the end of the day, the winner of the $5,000 raffle, sponsored by the museum, will be drawn. Raffle tickets are $5. Festival admission is $6, free for children 12 and younger.
