Regal Cinemas to open at Waugh Chapel Towne Centre

Regal Entertainment Group will open a 12-screen and IMAX movie theater this month at Waugh Chapel  Towne Centre in Gambrills, with preview events starting Monday and a Sept. 14 grand opening.

The 2,200-seat Waugh Chapel Stadium 12 & IMAX will join anchors Target and Dick’s Sporting Goods, which opened this year at the $275 million mixed-use project in western Anne Arundel County – the nation’s largest retail project currently under construction. Wegmans is coming to the center, next to the Village at Waugh Chapel, this fall.

The theater will open with first-run movies Resident Evil: Retribution in IMAX 3D and Finding Nemo 3D.  Theater-goers will be treated to free popcorn and soft drinks through Sept. 20.

The cinema is equipped with RealD 3D and the IMAX Experience, a system designed to make audiences feel as if they are in the movies. The IMAX theater will show digitally remastered Hollywood blockbusters as well as original documentary-style films.

The theater also offers Sony's Entertainment Access system for disabled moviegoers. It includes  specially designed lightweight eyewear that puts closed captioned text in the line of sight for deaf and hard of hearing viewers and wireless headsets with descriptive audio tracks for blind and low-vision viewers.

Preview events start Monday, featuring $2 movies, $2 popcorn and $2 soft drinks  for three days to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Anne Arundel County, Got Your  6 --Military Support and Grants 4 Teachers of Anne Arundel County.

Some of the preview films will include Mirror, Mirror, Lorax "3D", Amazing Spiderman "3D", Battleship, Act of Valor, the Avengers "3D", Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows "3D," The Help and The Lucky One.
