Two people faced life-threatening injuries after their car crashed into a tree in Davidsonville Friday night.

Firefighters took more than 15 minutes to free a man and woman who appeared to be in their 20s from the wreckage, Fire Department spokesman Division Chief Michael Cox said.

The accident happened on Patuxent River Road south of Central Avenue just after 10 p.m., Cox said. The pair were taken by separate helicopters to regional trauma centers.
