During the 2011 college football season, 79 players from the Baltimore area suited up for Football Bowl Subdivision programs. This year, that number will increase by 10.

Eighty-nine athletes from this area — Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Carroll County, Harford County, Howard County — are listed on FBS rosters this fall.

The ACC leads the way with 30 local players. Maryland is responsible for the biggest chunk of that figure with 16 players, while Virginia Tech (4), Wake Forest (4), Virginia (3), Boston College (1), Duke (1) and North Carolina (1) are also represented on the list.

The other conferences with Baltimore-area players are: Big East (16), Big 10 (11), MAC (9), Independent (7), SEC (5), Conference USA (5), Big 12 (2), Pac-12 (2) and Mountain West (2).

In addition to Maryland, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Virginia, these programs have three or more local players: West Virginia (6), Navy (5), Penn State (5), Temple (5) and Buffalo (3).

Dunbar has the most FBS players with eight, while Gilman is right behind at seven. Two out-of-area schools with local players — DeMatha and Good Counsel — had five apiece. Archbishop Spalding, Atholton, Boys' Latin and Calvert Hall are next on the list with four each. Four local high schools each have three FBS players — Archbishop Curley, Loyola, McDonogh and River Hill. Arundel, Cardinal Gibbons, Mount St. Joseph, Old Mill, Towson and Woodlawn all have two apiece.
