There’s a new eatery in Columbia that offers Turkish and Italian dishes as well as American flair and a menu for kids.

Rustem “Rudy” Keskin is the brains behind Rudy’s Mediterranean Grill & Diner, which opened in the Gateway Plaza in Columbia earlier this year.

Keskin grew up helping in the kitchens of relatives’ restaurants in his hometown of Istanbul, Turkey. Later, as a Howard County resident, Keskin says he learned quite a lot as a waiter and in the kitchen of the Double-T Diner in Ellicott City, where he worked prior to establishing his own restaurant.

Whether you’re game for the international dishes — dolma, tabouleh, barbunya, kebabs or moussaka on the Turkish side — or traditional Italian pasta dishes, a pizza, burger, salad or a crab cake, Rudy’s Mediterranean Grill & Diner can satisfy.

“Everything here is fresh,” he says. “Nothing is frozen.”

Even the Turkish rice pudding, cheesecake and whole cakes are made fresh daily.

Keskin explains his extensive menu — “It’s for everybody ... everyone is welcome here.”

Open seven days, 7 a.m.-10 p.m. Eat-in, carryout, delivery.

Rudy’s Mediterranean Grill & Diner, 7185 Columbia Gateway Drive, Suite D, Columbia. 410-290-2004
