Lussi, Hursey earn age-group national titles

Hunter Lussi of Lutherville captured the men's 17-19 age group national title Saturday at the USA Triathlon Olympic-Distance National Championship in Burlington, Vt., and Katie Hursey of Hampstead took the women's 20-24 group. Lussi posted a time of 1 hour, 57:49 seconds on the 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike and 10-kilometer run course. In addition to the victory, Lussi also earned a spot on Team USA for the 2013 ITU Age Group Triathlon World Championships in London. Hursey finished in 2:07:44 and was third overall among women.

Swope back at UM as head of baseball operations

Maryland first-year head coach John Szefc announced the final addition to his staff, naming Matt Swope director of baseball operations. Swope played outfield for the Terps from 1999 to 2002 and is the school's career leader in runs with 181. Swope replaces former Arundel coach Bernie Walter, who will remain on staff as special assistant to the head coach. Former major league and Terps pitcher Eric Milton will remain as a volunteer assistant coach.
