Towson women to celebrate CAA title Oct. 26

Towson will hold its Colonial Athletic Association title celebration Oct. 26 at the Sheraton Baltimore North. Hosted by Towson Athletics and the Tiger Club, the "Night of Champions" will include the presentation of the CAA championship rings. The social hour begins at 6 p.m. with dinner and awards at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event can be purchased for $50. A portion of the ticket cost will be credited as a tax-deductible gift to the women's lacrosse program. The attire for the evening is business formal. Pre-registration is required; RSVP no later than Oct. 22.

More women: UMBC will welcome 12 newcomers to its 2013 roster: transfers Ali Carpenter (McDonogh, Loyola U.), Mary Milligan (South River, Anne Arundel CC) and Alyssa Semones, who comes from Penn State; four Howard County standouts in Megan Flock (Howard), Anne Zabel (Marriotts Ridge), Rachel Benzing (Centennial) and Meghan Milani (Glenelg); former Fallston teammates Sam Nolan and Paulina Christ; Brittany Marquess (Broadneck); Kayley Jones (Mount de Sales); and Kris Coppolino from Winter Springs (Fla.) High.

Men: Rising senior Jack D'Angelo (Calvert Hall) has committed orally to Quinnipiac. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound defenseman was a member of the Cardinals' Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association championship squad this spring. He also considered Dartmouth.

Towson's Buck wins CAA preseason honor in volleyball

Towson junior outside hitter Katy Buck (Mount de Sales) was chosen as the CAA Preseason Player of the Year by the league's volleyball coaches. Buck was joined on the preseason team by senior setter Aubrey Kirven, who earned honorable mention. The 2011 CAA Player of the Year, Buck led the conference and finished 43rd in the nation with 4.05 kills per set.

Men's soccer: Towson junior forward Olakunle Banjo was named to the preseason All-CAA team. ... Navy was chosen fourth in the preseason Patriot League poll.

Women's soccer: Johns Hopkins was unanimously selected to capture its eighth consecutive Centennial Conference crown in the preseason coaches poll.

Football: Salisbury was chosen to repeat as Empire 8 Athletic Conference champion in a vote of the league's coaches. Frostburg State was picked seventh.

Swimming: Johns Hopkins named Nikki Kett an assistant coach; she was an All-American at Kenyon, graduating this year. ... Emma Jackovitz (Bel Air), Ellie Miskiel and Sarah Sykes were named captains for Washington College.

Field hockey: Reigning national champion Maryland will open the season No. 1 in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I preseason poll for the second straight season and third time in the past four years. ... Salisbury was voted No. 4 in the NFHCA Division III preseason poll.
