The Gamber and Community Fire Company has named Julianne Weidman, of Finksburg, as the winner of the 2012 Oscar Brothers Memorial Scholarship, which is jointly sponsored by the Brothers family and the Gamber fire company. The scholarship awards a total of $12,500 over four years.
As part of the scholarship requirements, the winner must complete 40 hours of community service each year, and must maintain a 2.5 or better GPA in college. They also must reside in Gamber & Community Fire Company's first due district.
Weidman will be a freshman at Towson University in the fall. She graduated from Westminster High School with a 4.4 weighted GPA, and has been active in the St. Joseph's Catholic Community and the Good News Jail Ministry.
She participated in the All-County Orchestra of Carroll County as a violinist from 2006 to 2008 and 2009 to 2011. She also played soccer for Central Carroll Recreation Council, previously Deer Park, since the sixth grade. She has been a member of the National Honor Society since the 10th grade.
She is the daughter of Debra and Paul Weidman.
Officers elected for farm museum Board of Governors
The Carroll County Farm Museum's Board of Governors recently elected three members to serve as new officers.
Lisa Back will serve as board chair, Cheryl Davis will be vice chair and Carol Shook will serve as secretary.
The board also greeted new members Henry Lysy and Ann Thomas. Members of the board are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners and are eligible to serve two consecutive terms.
