Notebook: After review, Rabil gets single-season MLL points mark

Midfielder O'Connor of Boys' Latin orally commits to Loyola

Boston Cannons attackman Paul Rabil had two goals, including a two-pointer, and an assist Saturday in a 17-15 win over the Ohio Machine, giving him the new Major League Lacrosse single-season points record of 72.

Rabil, who won two NCAA championships at Johns Hopkins, received credit for the assist during a review after the game, which was the regular-season finale for the Cannons. The league confirmed the record Monday, lifting Rabil past the 71 points that current Chesapeake Bayhawks attackman John Grant Jr. scored in 2007 with the Rochester Rattlers.

Boston is seeded third in the MLL playoffs and will face the second-seeded Bayhawks at 4 p.m. Aug. 25 in Cambridge, Mass.

With the record, Rabil also won his second consecutive season scoring title. At No. 2 this season, Brendan Mundorf (UMBC, Mount St. Joseph) recorded 59 points for the Denver Outlaws.

College recruiting notes

• Boys’ Latin rising junior midfielder Keegan O’Connor has orally committed to Loyola. A contributor on the Lakers’ varsity this year, O’Connor plays club for Greene Turtle. He turned in All-Star performances at Baltimore Summer Kickoff and King of the Hill, as well as a spot on the Maryland Freestate team. O’Connor also considered Penn State and Brown.

• Rising senior attackman Mikey Ripa of Bishop O’Connell High in Arlington, Va., has orally committed to Mount St. Mary’s. A member of MadLax Orange, he was a Gait Cup All-Star and twice a Top 205 All-Star. For the Knights varsity, he started since his freshman year and has led in scoring all three years.
