Arundel graduate Elyse Smidinger, who won back-to-back girls state golf championships in 2010 and 2011, has been invited to play in the Symetra Tour's Challenge at Musket Ridge on a local exemption.
The tournament, which takes place in Myersville, is set for August 20-26.
Smidinger, who will begin her freshman year at the University of Denver in the fall, also is a three-time Maryland Junior Championship winner. Her career highlight to date came last August at the U.S. Women's Amateur Golf Championships in Rhode Island when, seeded 64th, she upset No. 1 seed Jihee Kim of Korea in the first round.
