Matt Wieters watches the first of his two solo home runs sail… (Gene Sweeney Jr., Baltimore…)
August 08, 2012|By Dan Connolly

A lot has been said about Matt Wieters struggling at the plate this year.

And even with a three-hit night Tuesday, he still is hitting just .244. He expects higher. You expect higher.

But Wieters homered twice Tuesday, his third multi-homer game and first since April. He now has 15 homers and 52 RBIs.

So his career highs of 68 RBIs and 22 homers – both set last year – are in play for him with roughly two months left in the season.

And for all you Wieters haters out there, don’t forget he’s probably the best defensive catcher in the league.

And he’s now a stolen base threat with three this season. (OK, he’ll never be a stolen base threat. But he does have a career high in that category, too).
