The Western Howard County Fever girls fastpitch travel program will hold tryouts at Western Regional Park on field 3 as follows:

10-U: noon-2:30 p.m., Aug. 12 and 19. Email

11-U: noon-2:30 p.m, Aug. 11 and 25; 6:30-8:30 p.m., Aug. 15. Email

12-U: 2:30-5 p.m., Aug. 12; noon-2:30 p.m., Aug. 19. Email

13-UC: 6:30-8:30 p.m., Aug. 8; noon-2:30 p.m., Aug. 26. Email

13-U: noon-2:30 p.m., Aug. 12; 2:30-5 p.m., Aug. 18 and 19. Email

14-U: noon-2:30 p.m., Aug. 12; 2:30-5 p.m., Aug. 18 and 19. Email

15-U: 9:30-noon, Aug. 12 and 19. Email

Private tryouts may also be offered by individual coaches.

The Fever's teams play fall ball, practice indoors during the winter, play in national events as well as college showcases for the high school age teams.

The Maryland Chill fastpitch softball organization, located in Ellicott City, field teams in every age group from 10-U to 18-U. Maryland Chill teams play in tournaments in the Mid-Atlantic region and have played in national tournaments. Tryouts for the 2012-13 season are:

10-U: 10:30-noon, Aug. 11; 6-8 p.m., Aug. 13. Raindate: 9-10:30 a.m., Aug. 18.

12-U: 10:30-noon, Aug. 11; 6-8 p.m., Aug. 15. Raindate: 9-10:30 a.m., Aug. 18.

14-U: noon-2 p.m., Aug. 11; 6-8 p.m., Aug. 16. Raindate: 10:30-noon, Aug. 18.

16-U: 9-10:30 a.m., Aug. 11; 6-8 p.m., Aug. 14. Raindate: 10:30-noon, Aug. 18.

18-U: 9-10:30 a.m., Aug. 11; 6-8 p.m., Aug. 14. Raindate: noon-2 p.m., Aug. 18.

The HCYP Patriots girls fastpitch travel program will hold tryouts 6-8 p.m. at Kiwanis-Wallas Park, in Ellicott City as follows. Please pre-register at

The Maryland Stars Girls Fastpitch program will continue tryouts for their 2012-13 teams Aug. 12 and 19 at Mayeski Park, Sykesville. The Stars have teams for 10-U through 18-U. Teams play 2-4 tournaments in the fall and 10-12 during the spring/summer seasons. Details are at or by calling 443-745-3177.

Terror Fastpitch will hold softball tryouts for girls age 10 and under to age 18 on Aug. 12 and 19. Tryouts will be held at Heritage Farm Park, Devilbiss Bridge Road, Walkersville, MD. The times are:

10-U and 12-U: 9–10:15 a.m.

14-U and 16-U: 10:30–11:45 a.m.

18-U: 12–1:15 p.m.

Players please bring your equipment and arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled start times to complete paperwork and warm up. Pitchers and catchers should plan on staying an additional 15 minutes.

All interested players should try to make both tryout dates but if they can only make one, please notify one of the Terror coaches. For more information, go to


The Centennial Fun Run will end its summer series on Tues., Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. (note the earlier start). There will be a Partners' Relay, pizza party and awards ceremony. The Fun Run takes place in the Centennial neighborhood. Call 410-465-7735 or go to


The Thunder Soccer Club Spurs (U-10 boys, born after Aug. 1, 2002) will be holding supplemental tryouts in August. The Spurs will play in the CMSSL and in several tournaments. Interested players should email

The Soccer Association of Columbia U-12 girls select team will hold supplemental tryouts from 6-7:30 p.m., Aug. 16 and 21 at Centennial High School. There are openings for four to five girls and the team is particularly looking for goalie experience. It is only necessary to attend one tryout. Email if interested in trying out.

Registration ends Aug. 15 for the Elkridge Youth Organization fall soccer program. Register early as some leagues fill up. EYO soccer is a co-ed recreational program that places emphasis on instruction, fitness and fun. Games are played at Rockburn Park. Players ages 4-18 are welcome; there are no tryouts for the recreational leagues.
