Weekly Maryland recruiting roundup

August 03, 2012|By Matt Bracken | The Baltimore Sun

With power forward Damonte Dodd already in the fold for Maryland's 2013 recruiting class, most of the Terps' recruiting focus has centered on guards. But this week, a new forward target has reportedly popped up on UM's recruiting radar.

Brandon Austin, a 6-foot-6 small forward from Philadelphia, recently withdrew his commitment to Penn State. According to SNY.tv's Adam Zagoria, the Terps are one of many programs to have expressed interest in the three-star prospect.

His Team Philly coach, Lonnie Lowry, said Baylor, UCLA, Maryland, Georgetown, Marquette and Florida have been heavily involved with the 6-foot-6, 175-pound small forward out of Philly Imhotep Charter since his decommitment.

“Those schools have all really, really, really showed the most interest, so it’s going to be up to him to pick a few schools that he wants to go ahead and visit,” Lowry told SNY.tv. “Maryland and Georgetown are pretty close [to Philly].”

** The stock of Suitland point guard Roddy Peters has never been higher. This week, the Terps target was vaulted to No. 16 in 247Sports.com's national 2013 rankings. Peters also narrowed his list of schools this week, telling Jerry Meyer that he is focused on Georgetown, Maryland, Memphis, Rutgers, Seton Hall, UCLA and Xavier.

** CBSSports.com's Jeff Borzello spoke recently to 2014 five-star wing prospect Rashad Vaughn.

His recruitment is wide open right now, but Minnesota, Iowa State, Texas, Syracuse, Tennessee, Baylor, Memphis, Colorado, Maryland and Wisconsin are all in hot pursuit. He might take a trip to Baylor in the near-future.
